Lesson 18 Introduction to Asanas
The Sanskrit word "Asan" meaning "posture", and refers to a particular position that is taken by the physical body in the practice of Hatha Yoga. Each Asan has a threefold purpose: physical, emotional and psychological. It is important to clarify that this division is made for purposes of analytical description, but that does not purport sustancializar such segmentation, as the Yoga is a holistic system and whose main signifier is "union". Therefore man is seen as an inseparable unity. Then each of the effects described are juxtaposed with the rest of the way of a musical note and their respective harmonics that resonate up and down a large-scale "total".
So each Asan occur in the physical body health-related benefits, restoring harmony to all organs of the body, as well as elongation and tonic muscles, promoting blood circulation, nourishing all the cells and tissues, working at the system level glandular and nervous and producing a state of relaxation. Progressively is striking a balance emotional and psychological, generated by the interaction of multiple factors including the effects on the nervous system, coordination and regulation of breath, stress reduction, changing patterns of confrontation with stressful situations, relaxation learned, and the possibility of opening to the world a new way of fresh and renewed.
Perhaps this is the most pragmatic seen from a Western way of thinking, but from the way these effects are only Eastern corollaries derivatives, which remain the main impact point to produce profound changes at the astral body (Linga Sharira), purifying and unlocking the nadis (channels through which flows the prana or vital energy) and activating the chakras (energy centers), but whose ultimate goal is to facilitate the state of meditation.
Each asana or posture has two phases: a dynamic and one static. In the dynamic phase (assembly and disassembly of Asano) each movement must be done so consciously, harmonious, slow, continuous and coordinated with breathing. The static phase (maintaining the position) was immobilises the whole body, and focuses attention on the specific area in which the acts Asano, accompanied by a soft and deep breathing. The greatest benefits of asanas are achieved at this late stage, as well as with regularity in practice.
